Read became USA naval attaché at Ottawa according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad morning edition dated 28 August 1940

An item dated Washington 27 August reported that captain Read (1) was appointed as navy and air force attaché for the United States at Ottawa, Canada. Read was during the First World War commanding officer of a submarine in European waters.
