American cabinet asked budget for new building fast freighters according to the Dutch newspaper Amigoe di Curacao dated 11 January 1951

An item reported that the American cabinet asked for offers for the in range building van merchant ships of a new kind Liberty and Victory ships. President Truman asked a budget for the building of fifty new fast freighters with a length of 158 metres, a speed of 20 knots and a deadweight of 12,500 tons.
