An item reported that the transport Shamrock had left Toulon with around 990 soldiers on board, the half for Tongkin and the other half for Cochinchina to add to the garrisons there. The transport also carried a large amount of hospital equipment with her. She was destined towards Saigon but had to wait at Singapore for orders of admiral Courbet to be sent if needed to Tongkin. The ships Tongkin and Bien-Hoa would follow within some days to transport Algerian troops to the battle scene and some officers of the marines to replace the casualties during the last fights in Annam.
