An item reported that the steamer Karomi left the Thames destined towards South-Africa with on board the largest cargo of war stores ever in British history.(1) The cargo contained 40.000.000 rounds cartridges in 3,640 chests, 7,000 rounds of shells and cartridges and 4,000 rounds of 5” lyddiet shells in 2,000 chests. Also she transported a quantity of ‘star-shells’ to be used for nightly shelling.
