An item reported that the Italian ships Fausto and Adamello and the Danish freighters Christian sass and Laura all lying in the harbour of Montevideo were seized by the Uruguayan government. Their crews would stay for the time being on board. The reason for this seizure was not officially announced.
Another Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland dated 22 April wrote that the Uruguay rejected the Italian protests against this seizure. The department for foreign affaires officially announced that ships which sought refugee in South American harbours were to be treated as private owned and therefore were the laws of that country of application.
