British troop transport Cameronia torpedoed according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 19 May 1917

An item reported that the British transport Cameronia of 10,963 tons was torpedoed the 15th in the eastern part of the Mediterranean. One officer and 128 soldiers and two ships’ officers and nine sailors were probably killed. The Vlissingse Courant of the same date confirmed the item adding that she belonged to the Anchorline of Glasgow. The edition of the first newspaper dated the 21st reported that she was torpedoed in the afternoon with a calm sea without that the submarine was sighted. The heavy explosion killed or wounded several sailors and soldiers although there was no panic on board. The first life-boat which was lowered was smashed causing may lives. The ship sunk within 30 minutes. Destroyers and life-boats saved a large number of the men on board.
