Dutch naval strength on 1 January 1860 according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 10 March 1860

An item reported that the Dutch navy consisted on 1 January that year of 5 steam frigates of which 3-51 and 2-45 guns, 2-19 gun steam corvettes, 17 screw steamships of which 4-16, 3-14, 908 and 1-7 guns, 13 screw steam flotilla vessels of which 11-10 and 2-8 guns, 12 paddle steamships of which 5-8, 5-6, 1-4 and 2-1 guns, 1-4gun paddle steamship belonging to the Department of Colonies but manned by the navy, 6-floating batteries of which 3-32m 1-30 and 2-26 guns, 2-74 gun ships of the line 2nd class, 3frigates 1st class of which 1-54 and 2-52 guns, 4-36 gun frigates 2nd class, 1 rerazeed 28 gun frigate, 4 corvettes 1st class of which 1-28 and 3-26 guns, 2 corvettes 2nd class of which 1-20 and 1-12 guns, 7 brigs of which 4-18, 1-14 and 2-12 guns, 7 schooner brigs of which 1-10, 5-6 and 1-5 guns, 4 schooners of which 3-3 and 1-1 guns, 1-10 gun transport, 34 gunboats large model ( new, old and mortar), 11 gunboats small model, 1-2 gun gunboat in the West Indies and 13-5 gun defence vessels.
Ships used for several purposes: 1 corvette 1st class as training battery at Willemsoord and a former paddle steamship at Surabaya.
Al together 151 ships and vessels.
Of the commissioned ships were ten destined for inland service, one for foreign service, three patrolling, five going towards the Dutch East Indies and one to the West Indies.
In the Dutch East Indies were 28 ships including 2 guard ships, 4 corvettes, 7 brigs, 5 screw steamships, 10 paddle steamships and one row gunboat.
In the Dutch West Indies were at the station Curacao two and at the station Surinam four ships.
