The Lijst van de Nederlandsche Oorlogs- en Koopvaardijschepen last correction dated 1 April 1900 mentioned a steamship Ysvogel with as call sign TJNK, homeport Tandjong Poera and a net measurement of 41,70 cubic metres or 14,73 tons each of 2,83 cubic metres . The newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 6 September 1901 referred to one of her reader who wrote that she stranded on 26 August in the kwala of the Tamiang river caused by the unreliable advices of the djoeragan wghich tried to pass with a water level of just 3 feet against the 5 feet draught of the ship. All passengers were with the biggest trouble saved by the decked tongkang P.S. No. 4 which was towed by the launch Sladang towards Seroway. The IJsvogel was just like the Augustina and the steam tongkang Voorwaarts complete neglected but wel assured. Of the Voorwaarts were engine and boiler all for for months ‘flooded’! Well informed sources claimed that the IJsvogel could be saved. However neither assurance or the Langkat IJs-Maatschappij and her representative the C.V. Martijn&Co. had done any efforts to do so. An earlier edition dated 30 August reported that she tried to enter the mouth of the Tamiang river when she struck a sandbank. She was at that moment towing a tongkang which her and taking away a part of the bullwarks. Using anchors the crew succeeded in refloating her but she again soon struck the sandbank while her engine could be used while her engineer left the ship. Probably she was now leaking and she sunk with just the pavilion roof above the water. Finally published edition dated 12 September a reply of Martijn&Co, dated Meduan 10 September denying the earlier published letter of a reader of the newspaper. The IJsvogel was recently repaired on the slipway, costs 2,600 dollar and the harbourmaster of Belawan supplied a certificate of seaworthiness for another year. The Voorwaarts was being repaired on the slipway at Tandjong Poera and the Augustina was recently inspected and if necessary repaired by Mr. Lightburn. He was an technician in service of Martijn&Co., to look after the properties of the Lankat IKs-Maatschappij. The IJsvogel was assured for ƒ 8,000, value estimated to be ƒ 15,000, the Augustina for ƒ 8,000 respectively ƒ 20,000and the Voorwaarts for ƒ 8,000 respectively ƒ 16,000.
