An item dated Paris 19 September reported that most of the French warships armed with guns and depth charges were working closely with the British navy in the warfare against the German submarines. In an official announcement of the 19th was said that one submarine was attacked and official sources believed even sunk. Without to much optimism it was acceptable that the French navy already destroyed four of five submarines.(1)

The newspaper Leeuwarder Nieuwsblad dated 20 December 1939 referred to a statement of the French minister van navy Campinchi during a lunch that allied naval forces destroyed two German submarines. The French newspaper Le Matins wrote the French destroyer Sirococo destroyed one of these submarines. It was the third German submarine she destroyed.
