Dutch frigate ship Diligence bound towards the Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Javasche Courant dated 2 September 1840


An item reported that the fast frigate ship Diligence captain H. Bos would depart 30 September Batavia towards the Netherlands. On board was excellent passenger accommodation and a skilled doctor. For more details could be asked at the captain in Surabaya or Am. Meijer&Co. in Batavia.(1)

The website http://www.scheepsindex.nl/schip.php?i=3472 reports that she was built in 1839 at the shipyard of Willem&Jan Hoogendijk&Co. in Capelle aan de IJssel en was condemned in Curacao due being damaged and broken up in 1863. The newspaper Journal de la Haye dated 30 October 1839 reported her recent launching at the shipyard of shipbuilders W. and J. Hoogendijk&Co, of the frigate Diligence of 1.000 tonnes for M.T.L. Loos in Amsterdam, captain H. Bos. The newspaper Het Amsterdamsch handels- en effectenblad dated 2 November 1863 published an item dated Amsterdam 1 November that she underway from Batavia towards Amsterdam entered Curacao being damaged. Her captain was Smit. A letter dated 7 October that she was twice inspected but probably would be condemned. The damaged part of the cargo would be sold next day. The edition dated 20 November published an item dated Amsterdam the 19th referred to a letter dated 16 October that she was indeed condemned and would be sold on the 22nd. The newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 4 December published an item dated Amsterdam the 3rd that she was sold according tot a letter dated 7 November with her inventory for ƒ 11.465.
