Galley slaves nearly escaped from yard in Genoa according to the newspaper De Koninklijke Courant dated 13 August 1808

An item dated Genoa 28 July reported that in the night of 24-25 July 260 galley slaves (criminals) which worked there at the shipyard nearly escaped. The major part of them had untied her chains and were armed with tools stolen out of the workshops. A guard however noticed their preparations and heard a flute sign and rattling of the chains warned the rest of the guard and the prisoners were without any resistance taken prison.
