Portugal wanted to buy a strong navy according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 16 November 1911

The Portuguese cabinet proposed the parliament to buy a navy consisting of 3 battleships, 3 cruisers, 8 destroyers and 4 submarines to be purchased from a British firm.
