The French so-called Vichy cabinet confirmed that the French fleet stationed at Alexandria surrendered for the British-American pressure and the warships with a total displacement of 65,000 tons were handed over to the British. The ships consisted of the 23,000 tons battleship Lorraine, the 10,000 tons cruisers Suffren, Tourville and Duquesne, the 7,000 ton cruiser Duguay-Trouin, the 1,300 tons torpedo boats Basque, Forbin and Fortune and finally the submarine Protée.
