Paris, 16 March. The newspaper Journal des Débats republished a news item according to which a French warship transported recently 200.000 francs towards Cadiz which was paid by the merchants of that city as a “flag compensation” for the transport of a large amount of money brought back with the frigate l’Antigone from America.(1) The 200.000 francs were handed over to the French consul where the merchants could get their share back while the French king did not want to have a financial compensation for services done by his ships to foreign trade.
