The Brazilian, Egyptian, Greek and Turkish navies according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 8 June 1827

Frankfurt, 3 June. The newspaper Oesterreichischen Beobachter published an extract from a news item earlier published in the new Greek newspaper l’Abeille Grecque of Hydra. This latter newspaper written in French was weekly published since 12 April. Lord Cochrane fitted out a large sea-land expedition to free Athens. The naval force left Spezzia 16 and from Hydra 17 and 18 April and consisting of 12 ships, partly warships and partly transports with 1.200 marines commanded by major Urquhart.

The master of an Ionian ship arriving at Zante coming from Modon reported that the Egyptian expedition of 27 ships including 4-5 frigates, 5 goelettes and the rest transports arrived 29 April at Navarino. The transports were transporting soldiers of an unknown number. Commercial correspondence from Constantinople dated 10 May gave some information based of tidings from Corfu dated the 4th. Lord Cochrane was at Poros and was to have bought 40 Greek warships armed with fire rockets and other means of violence. It was assured that they were round 15 May fitted out and with Cochrane departed towards Tenedos to wait for the Turkish fleet. In the mean time captured captain Hastings with the steamship Perseverance off Volo 6 Turkish vessels loaded with war stores and burnt 4 others. According to rumours was a Tartar send with orders to the fleet off the Dardanelles not to leave the Hellespont.

Lisbon, 19 May. A Brazilian ship arrived after a voyage of 57 days from Bahia at Lisbon. In that province was at the moment everything peaceful. The war preparations against Buenos Aires didn’t make much progress although in the navy arsenals men were working hard. A Portuguese vessel which arrived yesterday on the Taag brought with her tidings from Rio Janeiro dated 13 March. The preparations there for the navy were very slowly going on. Nothing was known of the departure of the emperor from Rio Janeiro.
