The Egyptian, Greek and Turkish navies in the Levant according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 28 September 1821

Augsburg, 19 September. The Turkish fleet of 32 ships included 5 ships of the line and some frigates was added by a Egyptian squadron of 14 ships, a force considered to be strong enough to defeat the Greek fleet and to end their revolt. Paris, 23 September.

A tiding dated Marseille 16 September reported that one of the Turkish ships which survived the latest battle fled to the island Chio. Here it captured two Austrian vessels which intended to depart for Constantinople and a Ragusan ship under the French flag, killing the crews and stealing the 20.000 daalders on board of the Austrian ships. The governor of Chio protested without results and the Turkish ship sailed towards Asia. The commanding officer of the French station was all ready informed and who was preparing for action.
