Paris,
31 March. Some newspapers according to the l’Etoile published the
contents of an article, which appeared in the newspaper of Jamaica dated 30
January, dealing with a fight in the Gulf of Saint Laurent between two French
corvettes and two American warships. In 1826 were three French warship as usual
stationed of the coast of the island Terre Neuve to protect the fishery
interests in the period May-September and without any problems with British or
American ships. Since that year there hadn’t been a French warship in these
waters and not early as begin April of this year they will depart from French
harbours towards this station. So this news item can’t be true.
