The French newspaper Moniteur of Paris dated 3 August published a telegram from the prefect at Marseille to the president of the council that lieutenant Sparck commanding the British packet boat Prometheus which departed 28 July from Malta and arriving at Marseille reported that the Egyptian fleet returned at Alexandria with a part of the troops which were brought to Syria. Sparck was informed by the master of a packet boat coming from Beirut and Alexandria.
