The Egyptian, French, Greek and Turkish navies and Greek pirates in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 31 December 1825

Trieste, 10 December. Letters were received from French letters according to which rear admiral de Rigny finally received a formal decision of the Greek government ordering all islands in the Archipelago to search for the pirates which plunders French merchant ships. Although the Greek government strictly piracy disapproved, she wasn’t able to stop or prevent it.

Paris, 27 December. The Turkish fleet was 29 November in the Ionian Sea sailing towards the Gulf of Lepante pursued by the Greek fleet. According to an extract of a private letter based on letters of Corfu dated 18 November and Zante 21 November succeeded the Egyptian fleet in landing troops at Navarino. The Greek squadron didn’t do anything while they want to prevent an attack on the islands. Satisfied that wasn’t to happen they hasted towards Navarino where they apparently defeated the Egyptian fleet.
