The Egyptian, Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 16 November 1824

Augsburg, 8 November. The newspaper Allgemeine Zeitung published several tidings dated Constantinople 11 October. The Captain Pasha who was united by the Egyptian fleet and according to the last courier defeated the Greek seems to meet the same fate as his predecessors. Off Mitylene he recollected his ships and attacked again Samos departing 4 October with a fleet all ready in worse condition. The Greeks however continuously persecuted him with their fire ships until Mitylene causing the burning of 5 or 6 frigates or corvettes. The Captain Pasha fled himself to the Dardanelles leaving the main part of his fleet shattered of which just the mast less admiral’s ship and a frigate returned. Of the Egyptian fleet was nothing known. In letters from Smyrna was said that Canaris himself burned 3 Turkish warships. According to rumours was the Captain Pasha either sick or even dead. According to one letter of Constantinople arrived the admiral’s ship of the captain pasha without masts and sails towed by a frigate complete unexpectedly in the port without having the Captain Pasha on board.
