The French and Spanish navies and Colombian privateers in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 7 August 1724

Cadiz, 16 July. The president of the health junta confirmed to the Chamber of Commerce that the French ships which were stationed off this harbour if necessary would aid the ships coming from the Antilles to arrive at Port Mahon although without escorting towards this harbour. The Spanish frigate Casilda and the brigs Jason and Descubierta were responsible for escorting while no ships coming from the Antilles were allowed until mid November to enter Cadiz. The ships of the French navy which were in the bay of Cadiz left towards the Strait of Gibraltar. The two large Spanish ships el San Fernando and la Vigarrena coming from Havana arrived after a voyage of 30 days the day before yesterday with valuable cargo’s of sugar, cacao, coffee and so on. They met at sea the frigate la Sabina pursuing privateers of the Independents in the Channel of Bahamas. This news was earlier published in the newspaper Journal de Brux.
