A
newspaper of London published a tiding from Liverpool dealing with the arrival
of the merchant ship Amity coming from Laguna. She departed the latter port 8
June without being visited by the French squadron. The master said that he met
25 June the Llama who sailed from Liverpool towards Veracruz but which was send
back by the 10 French warships and was gone towards Havana to wait for further
instructions. When the Amity departed everything was done to maintain the
blockade. The merchants of London begin to fear that when the French naval force
the blockade of the coasts of Mexico and Buenos Ayres continued both
governments would supply letters of marque (privateers).
