The Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 14 July 1827

Vienna, 3 July. Tidings coming from the Ionian Islands reported the sighting of the Turkish fleet 1 June off Zante. She consisted of 27 ships, namely 1 ship of the line, 8 frigates, 12 corvettes, 4 brigs and 2 goelettes and cruised the whole day in the waters of Morea. Lord Cochrane who was with the frigate Hellas between Strophen and Patras left when the Turkish fleet approached and stayed during the afternoon between the Strophen and the channel of Ithaka. The 2nd was the Turkish fleet near the castle Tornese with Cochrane moving further away. Neither the steamship Karteria or the other Greek vessels had joined him. The in the mean time captured prizes stayed beyond the frigate Hellas. The 5th met an Ionian steamship 18 warships belonging to the Turkish fleet. Her master was asked where Cochrane was while they wanted to ‘visit’ him. The 7th arrived at Zante the tiding that the Turkish fleet which was cruising in the waters of Missolunghi and Morea, left the scene, just leaving some ships behind. Five days later became it known that Cochrane returned at Pores, while its was believed he was in the Ionian waters. So he must already begin June when the Turkish fleet appeared have returned to Patras. The Karteria arrived at Spezzia.
