The newspaper Courier de Smyrne published some tidings from Candia dated until 1 May. At Kanea arrived 28 March an Egyptian brig which had brought money and clothes to the Turkish the Turkish occupation but since then Greek warships appeared before this seaport as before Suda, Rettini and Spina-Longa preventing any ship despite which flag they hoisted entering these ports. There were constant rumours at Candia that the Pasha of Egypt fitted out a fleet to bring considerable reinforcements towards Candia but according to the newspaper the Pasha didn’t trust the attitude of the European powers and waited with the departure of his fleet.
