The Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 31 July 1821

Corfu, 31 July 1821.The admiral of the Greek fleet which is crossing off the entrance of the Dardanelles sent to all island in the Archipelago and to Morea the tiding of the defeat of the Turkish fleet. The latter consisting of one 3-decker, three 2-deckers, three frigates, four brigs 1st class, 2-22 gun corvettes and 6-12 gun gun vessels anchored in the harbour of Mitylene after passing the Dardanelles although the 3–decker stayed in the entrance of the harbour. The Greek fleet consisting of 35 ships of Hydra and Spezzia attacked by sending a fire ship to the 3-decker. This ship tried to escape her fate by manoeuvring leaving the entrance wide open allowing the Greek fleet to enter the harbour and capturing the Turkish fleet except for the 3-decker. This ship was set into fire to prevent to loose too many men trying to capture her. Partly of her crew escaped to the shore where they were taken prisoner of war.
