Italian navy training her personnel in using wireless telegraphy according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 10 March 1903
An item reported that at Livorno, Italy and on the island Palmaria (distance between both locations around 80 kilometres) wireless telegraphy stations of the Marconi system were founded. Their purpose was to supply a practical training of special appointed navy officers and non-commissioned officers. At Spezzia was a theoretical training started obliged for all officers on board of submarines responsible for the navigation. Experiments proved that although the signal was weakened it still could be received on board of submerged submarines.
