Dutch replenishment ship Zuiderkruis (A832) 1973-2014

Building at the Verolme Verenigde Scheepswerven ordered on 3 October 1972, laid down on 16 July 1973, launched and baptized on 15 October 1974 by Mrs/ E.J. van de Vijver-Salomé at the Verolme Scheepswerf at Alblasserdam, Netherlands, completed since April 1975 at the Verolme Shipyard at Rozenburg, Netherlands commissioned on 27 June 1975 and decommissioned on 10 February 2012. Partly stripped departed she on 21 February 2014 the naval base at Den Helder, Netherlands to be broken up by Simsekler LTD in Turkey. Efforts to sale her failed. Building costs ƒ 85.000.000,00. An modified Poolster-design dating from 1964. With a displacement of 16.900-17.357 (maximum)  tons were her dimensions 170,0 x 20,0 x 8,4 metres. The two Stork Werkspoor diesels delivered 21.000 hp allowing a speed of 21 knots. Her crew numbered around 200 men. The armament consisted of 1 Goalkeeper CIWS, 08- 0.50” machine guns and she could carry 2-3 helicopters with her. Cargo capacity 9.000-11.000 ton diesel oil, 200 ton drinking water and 100 ton fuel for helicopters.
