Dutch steam transport Zr.Ms. Java built at the navy yard at Amsterdam, Netherlands to be completed at Den Helder, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Courant van Den Helder dated Saturday 12 August 1865

model in collection Rijksmuseum at Amsterdam, Netherlands

An item dated Den Helder, Netherlands the 11th reported that recently at the navy yard of Amsterdam, Netherlands launched steam transport Zr.Ms. Java (1) intended to depart next Wednesday towards the Nieuwdiep. Due to her length was she not able to pass the lock at Purmerend, Netherlands and would there for be towed via the Zuiderzee. Problems were already foresighted due to her draught and the shallow Pampus. With high tide was the water level at Pampus 3,3-3,4 metres and the draught of the ship was 33,8-3,9 metres. The ship was as light as possible lacking her engine and even the totally panelling inside the hull. The navy yard at Williamsport [Den Helder] was to complete her. The Java was to be used as transport on the line Netherlands-Dutch East Indies. To be fitted out with 4 masts. The tug at Pampus was to be supported by a tug from Nieuwediep, probably the Stad Amsterdam and a second boat for the towage.
