Dutch 7th charter/frigate Bellona 1785-1796 and British 6th rate HMS Vindictive 1796-1816

Of the Admiralty of the Maze, on 6 December 1785 ordered to be built, called Bellona on 2 May 1786, order for the ornaments given to Maeijstre for ƒ 400 on 10 October, ordered to buy wood for the panelling 6 February 1787, launched at naval yard at Rotterdam by P. Glavimans on 20 March, captured by British in the Saldanha Bay on 17 August 1796, dimensions 121 3/11 x 33 3/11 x 12 9/11 and an armament of 20-24 guns. Commanding officers 1788-1790 captain H. Hartman, 1790 voyage to Ternate, Celebes, 1790-1792 lieutenant J.W. van Hamel, 1792 captain A.Th. Detmere, voyage to the Channel and in 1794 captain J. Rijnbende. In British naval service she became the 28-guns 6th rate HMS Vindictive which was commissioned in the Saldanha Bay in December 1795, finally stricken form the Navy List n 6 July 1810 and in 1816 broken up at Sheerness, England.
