American screw steam sloop USS Lancester bound for Peru to watch Spanish movements according to the Whalemen’s Shipping List dated Tuesday 7 June 1864

An item reported that the USS Lancaster left Panama bound for Callao, Peru to watch the Spanish movements in that area.(1)

1. Screw steam sloop. Laid down at the Philadelphia navy Yard in December 1857, launched while sponsored by Miss Harriet Lane on 20 October 1858, commissioned on 12 May 1859, decommissioned on 1 May 1902 although not earlier stricken as on 31 December 1915 and finally broken up in 1933. Her armament consisted of 24-9”smoothbore Dahlgren guns, 1-2”smoothbore Dahlgren gun and 2-30pd Parrott rifles.
