Dutch merchant ship Dordrecht stranded and lost at Brouwershaven, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Schiedamsche Courant dated 2 December 1868

An item reported that the Dutch ship Dordrecht captain Verhoeven underway from Batavia, Dutch East Indies towards Dordrecht, Netherlands in the night of 29-30 November around 01.00 o’clock stranded on the Banjaard probably caused by the fog. Crew, passengers and troops (40 men) were saved and brought by the Dutch tug Hellevoetsluis towards Brouwershaven, Netherlands. When she stranded were around 800 bales of coffee thrown overboard which was partly salvaged and unloaded at Ouddorp, Netherlands. Pilotvessel from Brouwershaven and other vessels tried to refloat the Dordrecht and take over her cargo. It was feared that she could not be saved while in the cargo hold was already the water level raised to 12 feet. The edition of the 4th reported that her captain and wheelsmen left the ship on the 1st and arrived at Brouwershaven. The ship was in the meantime broken and filled with water. The tug Hellevoetsluis returned in the evening not able to do anything more.
