German submarine bombarded Monrovia, Liberia according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag dated voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 15 April 1918
An item dated London, England 13th reported that a German submarine torpedoed off the Liberian coast a small armed ship after her crew was taken prisoner. The commanding officer of the submarine threatened to bombard Monrovia if the French cable not was cut off and the wireless devices disabled. Although demands were accepted, demanded the German officer that the complete telegraph equipment was destroyed. When this refused was Monrovia bombarded during a hour causing huge damage and killing or wounding citizens. The submarine was then attacked by an unknown ship.
