The British and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 15 May 1841

According to tidings from Constantinople dated 21 April but not earlier as 6 May arrived at Vienna was a squadron to be fitted out consisting of 10 warships to depart as soon as possible towards Candia to blockade the coasts of that island excluding the most import harbours Canca, Suda, Rettimo and Candia caused by the fact that the revolt still was going on. 3.000 Turkish soldiers coming from Constantinople with the intention supported by the British ship of the line HMS Revenge to stop the revolt reinforced Mustapha Pasha. The fact that the new soldiers were or sick or just young recruits made this plan not possible so he was waiting for better troops.
