British bark Gayton loaded with saltpetre stranded off the Pannekoek, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch nieuwsblad dated 19 November 1888

An item dated Nieuwediep, Netherlands 14th reported that on the Pannekoek the British bark Gayton captain Mackay underway from Pisagua, Chile towards Hamburg, Germany loaded with saltpetre. Tugs were underway tot assist her. Later was reported that the unloading was started and already 150 ton were transported towards Nieuwediep. The Gayton however was still not refloated. An item dated 15th reported that her crew abandoned the ship which was still not leaking but in serious problems.(1)
