Dutch marines stationed at Vlissingen, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Oprechte Haerlemsche Courant dated 14 November 1782

An item dated Vlissingen (1), Netherlands 10th reported that the same week the arrival of the second battalion of the regiment marines of general major Douglas (2)was expected to replace the first battalion of the regiment commanded by lieutenant general Van Randwijk which left Vlissingen towards Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands.

1. Vlissingen was the major naval base of the Admiralty of Zeeland.
2. Robert Douglas (24 April 1727 Edinburgh, Scotland-30 December 1809 Zierikzee, Netherlands) commanded the marines regiment Douglas since 21 September 1768. In 1792 were none marines stationed in Vlissingen while the regiments Douglas and Westerlo were stationed at Grave, Tiel, Brielle and Hellevoetsluis. Regiment Marines Douglas was also known as Regiment Marines No. 19 and is on 1 July 1795 discontinued.
