British submarine HMS K 5 1915-1921
Of the K-class. Laid down at the H.M Dockyard, Portsmouth on 13 November 1915, launched on 16 December 1916, completed and commissioned in May 1917 and sunk during exercises on 20 January 1921 around 120 miles away of the Isles of Scully after signalling she was diving.
General specifications of her class. Displacement 2.010 tons/1.980 long tons (surfaced)-2.607 tons/2.566 long tons (submerged) and as dimensions 103 x 8,08 x 6,38 metres or 339 x 26.6 x 20.11 feet. The geared steam turbines and 2 Yarrow boilers delivered 21.000 shp, the 4 electric motors delivered 5.760hp and the diesel generator 800 hp allowing a speed of 24 (surfaced)-8 (submerged) knots and with a range while surfaced of 800 nautical miles with 24 knots and 12.500 nautical miles with 10 knots and submerged 40 nautical miles with 4 knots and 8 nautical miles with 8 knots. Her crew numbered 59 men included 6 officers. The armament consisted of 8-46cm/18” torpedo tubes (4 beam, 4 bow) for which 8 spare torpedoes where taken with her, 2-18” torpedo tubes on deck (later removed), 2-10cm/4” guns and 1-7,6cm3” gun
