German battleship Schlesien (1906) in 1923


Deutschland-class. Launched in 1906, completed in 1908, displacement 13.040 tons, horsepower 16.000 hp, coal-oil fired reciprocating machinery and an armament of 4-11” guns, 14-5.9” guns, 20 smaller guns, 23 machineguns and 5 torpedo tubes (1 submerged, 4 surfaced).(1)

1. Brassey‘s naval and shipping annual 1923. Dimensions 398.5 x 72.75 x 25.25 feet. Building costs 1.214,000 pound sterling. Crew numbered 743 men. Trial speed 19.2 knots. Armament consisted of 4-11” guns, 14-5.9” guns, 20-3.4” guns, 4 machineguns, 2-12pd guns and 5 torpedo tubes. The armour consisted of a 4-9.25” belt, 3” deck, slide above belt 8”, with the main and secondary armament protected by 6-11” respectively 6.75”.
