Russian destroyer Nowik fastest ship of the world according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1912-1913 no. 6
An item reported that the Russian large torpedo cruiser Novik at her first trial fully fitted out and with the war draught during several hours a maximum speed of 36,5 miles achieved making her the fastest warship in the world at her time. She was built at the Putilow shipyard using designs of the German Vulkan shipyard. The engines and boilers were delivered by Vulkan. The Russian czar was during one of the trials on board of her.(1)

Laid down on 1 July 1910, launched on 4 July 1913, commissioned on 9 September 1914, joined the side of the Bolsheviks in November 1917 and was renamed Yakov Sverdlov in 1923, laid up 9 September 1918-1925, rebuilt between 26 September 1925 and 30 August 1929, refitted between 28 November 1937 and 8 December 1940, classified as training ship since 23 April 1940, decommissioned in active service on 23 June 1941 and sunk near Cape Juminda after hitting a German mine on 28 August 1941.
