American monitor USS Florida used as target according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1907-1908 No. 11


An item reported that the American monitor Florida was to be used as a target for the 30,5cm guns of a battleship, especially to investigate the effects of hits on turrets and the devices placed inside the turrets. She was not to be destroyed while she was just 10 years old.

1. Of the Arkansas-class, launched at the Crescent Shipyard, Elizabeth, New Jersey on 30 November 1901, renamed Tallahassee on 1 July 1909 and finally sold to be broken up on 25 July 1922.
