Italian carabinieri disembarked by torpedo boat at Tanger, Morocco according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 1 September 1923

An item dated Rome, Italy 31th August reported that according to an official report the 12 carabinieri disembarked at Tanger, Morocco was just for protection of the Italian interests there and had nothing to do with politics. The men were clothed as civilian and transport by a torpedo boat just to be as soon as possible at Tanger.(1)

1.Between 1921-1926 was in the Moroccan Rif region a war going on between Spain and the Berbers led by Abd al-Karim. Spain was later supported by France. The Riffians declared independence from Spain and the Moroccan sultan and founded in September 1921 the Republic of the Riff.
