Large mazut storage to be founded at Kronstadt, Russia according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens 1898 no. 1

An item reported that at Kronstadt, Russia a mazut depot was to be founded. The mazut (1) was to be used as fuel for the new torpedo boats and some larger ships and to be stored in iron basins made of reused old boilers with a capacity of 17.000 tons. An iron steam tender with a cargo capacity of 1.000 tons and the necessary equipment was to built as a mazut transport for the ships.

1. Mazut is a heavy, low quality fuel oil and was especially used for larger steam boilers.
