Russian navy reorganizing torpedo service according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens 1890 no. 10

An item referred to the Army and Navy Gazette reporting that until now there were 4 Torpedo companies in Russia available, two for the Baltic and two for the Black Sea. Their own command was abrogated, the number of the companies increased to 8 under the new name torpedo fortress companies. Their station were Kronstadt, Seaborg [Suomenlinna, Finland], Viborg and Dünamünde [Daugavgrīva, Latvia] at the Baltic Sea and Otschakoff, Sevastopol, Kerch and Mitpailowsk (Batumi, Georgia] in the Black Sea area. In peace time were the commanded by the general inspector of the technical troops, in wartime by the commanding officer of the stronghold. The companies at Kronstadt, Sveaborg and Sevastopol numbered 6 officers and 174 men in peace time, respectively 11 and 179 in wartime. The other companies numbered 5 en 98, respectively 6 and 99.
