American river gunboat USS Guam built at Shanghai, China according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland dated 28 January 1928

An item reported that the American river gunboat Guam (1) built at Shanghai, China was to serve in the Yangtze river area. There were five more of such boats to be built. Each gunboat had a proposed crew of 5 officers, 6 petty officers and 38 sailors to be added by 10 natives.

Since 1928 classified as a river patrol vessel PR-3 in 1928, renamed Wake on 23 January 1941, captured by the Japanese forced on 8 December 1941, stricken from the American Naval List on 25 March 1942. Renamed Tatara, recaptured by American forces in August 1945, stricken from the Japanese Naval List on 30 September 1945, handed over to China and renamed RCS Tai Yuan in 1946, captured by Communist Chinese forces in 1949 and served until the 1960s. Launched by Kiangnan Dock and Engineering Works, Shanghai, China on 28 May 1927 and commissioned on 18 December 2927.
