Explosion on board of Russian battleship Retzivan caused death of stokers according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1902-1903 no. 8

An item referred to the magazine le Yacht reporting that on board of the Russian battleship Retvisan a feed pipe sprung causing the death of five stokers.(1)

Building ordered on 2 May 1898, laid down by William Cramp and Sons, Philadelphia, USA on 29 July 1899, launched on 23 October 1900, commissioned on 23 March 1902, sunk by Japanese forces at Port Arthur on 6 December 1904, fakken in Japanese hands on 2 January 1905, renamed Hizen, clarified as 1st class coast defence ship on 1 September 1921, stricken on 20 September 1923 and sunk while used as a gunnery target on 25 July 1924.
