Japanese destroyer Usugumo executing trials according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1899-1900 no. 10

An item referred to the magazine le Yacht reporting that the Japanese 275 ton-destroyer Usuzymo the 6th of the destroyers built by Thornycroft executed her first trial on 23 January loaded with 35 ton achieving a medium speed of 30,6 miles at the measured mile and 30,37 miles during a 3hours trial.(1)

A second item reported that the 6th destroyer built by Yarrow called Nile performed her 3 hours trial with a speed of 31,15 miles and was now being prepared for her homeward bound voyage towards Japan.

1. This must be the Usugumo, part of the Murakumo-class consisting of Usugumo, Kagero, Shiranui, Shinonome, Yugiri and Murakumo, preceded by the Ikazuchi-class and succeeded b the Akatsuki-class. Laid down by Thornycroft, Chiswick, England on 1 September 1898, launched on 16 January 1900, commissioned on 1 February 1900, minesweeper since 1 April 1922, dispatch vessel since 1 August 1923 and finally scuttled on 26 April 1925.
