Laid down by JSC PO Sevmash, Severodvinsk with yard number 711 on 30 June 1976, launched in September 1980, commissioned on 29 December 1981 and in actual service on 9 February 1982. Project 941 Akula-class called by the NATO typhoon-class. Armament consists of 20 RSM-56 Bulava SLBMs, 4-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes and 2-65cm/26” torpedo tubes.

General technical class specifications. Displacement 23.200/24.500 (surfaced)-33.80048.000 (submerged) tons and as dimensions 175 x 23 x 12 metres or 574.2 x 75.6 x 39.4 feet. Crew numbers 160 men. Speed 22,2 (surfaced)-27 (submerged) knots. Diving test depth 400 metres or 1.300 feet.
