Main armament of Japanese Mogami-class heavy cruisers reduced according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1938 no. 5

An item referred to the Proceedings dated March 1938 reporting that the main armament of the Japanese cruisers Mogami (1) and Mikuma (2) was reduced to 12-15cm guns.

1. Part of Mogami-class consisting of the Mogami, Mikuma, Kumano and Suzuya preceded by the Tone-class, but not succeeded and with an armament of 5x2-20,3cm/8” guns after a reconstruction in 1939 instead of 5x3-15.5cm/6.1” guns. Laid down by Kure Arsenal on 27 October 1931, launched on 14 March 1934, completed on 28 July 1935 and scuttled after the Battle of Surigao Strait on 25 October 1944.

Part of Mogami-class consisting of the Mogami, Mikuma, Kumano and Suzuya preceded by the Tone-class, but not succeeded and with an armament of 5x2-20,3cm/8” guns after a reconstruction in 1939 instead of 5x3-15.5cm/6.1” guns. Laid down by Mitsubishi Nagasaaki Shipyard on 24 December 1931, launched on 31 May 1934, completed on 28 August 1935 and sunk during the Battle of Midway on 5 June 1942.
