Japanese heavy cruiser Chikuma laid down according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1938 no. 5

An item referred to the Jap. Chr. dated 24 March 1938 reporting that the on 1 October 1935 laid down Japanese cruiser Chikuma was to be launched on short notice. Displacement 8.500 tons and as dimensions 190,5 x 18 metres. Armament was to consist of 12-20,5cm guns, 8-13,7cm anti aircraft guns and 12 torpedo tubes. Fitted out with 3 search lights. Speed 33 miles. In a note was written that the 20,5cm was presumably a mistake and should be 15cm.(1)

1. Tone-class heavy cruiser consisting of the Tone and Chikuma, preceded by the Mogami-class and to be succeeded by the never completed Ibuki-class. Building ordered under the Fiscal Year 1932, laid down on 1 October 1935, launched on 19 March 1938, commissioned on 20 May 1939, scuttled after the battle of Samar on 25 October 1944 and stricken on 20 April 1945. The armament consisted of 4x2-20cm8” /50 3rd Year type naval gun.
