Battleship USS Maine

An item reported the arrival at Colon, Panama on Tuesday by the American cruiser Atlanta and the auxiliary cruiser Mayflower and the Nashville on Wednesday. The battleship Maine and the auxiliary cruiser Dixil were already lying there. The reason for their presence was the signing on 18 November of the tractate [Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty] dealing with the Panama canal between the USA and the Republic of Panama. Panama had until being part of Colombia. American army engineers built as a result of the tractate the canal between 1904-1917.
