Polish shipbuilding industry lacking machinery building plants according to a CIA report dated 20 October 1954

An item reported that Polish shipyards nearly completed 4-10.000 tons cargo ships fitted out with Fiat made machinery.

An item reported that it was quite doubtful if there was behind the Iron Curtain any machinery available for the Polish shipbuilding industry. New engines were fitted out with engines made abroad and which was difficult to purchase. The other option was to use somewhat outdated reciprocating steam engines made in Poland which also did not operated well. Polish ships were not fitted out with engines made in the Soviet Union and furthermore was a project for building diesel engines in Czechoslovakia abandoned.
